Mission-driven Organizations Join Forces to Advance Affordable Homeownership Opportunities
Cinnaire is one of 21 founding members of the Homeownership Alliance, a new initiative that will advocate for more resources and better policies to increase affordable homeownership opportunities for American families. The initiative is led by the National Community Stabilization Trust (NCST), a non-profit organization that works to restore vacant and abandoned properties to productive use and to protect neighborhoods from blight.
The Homeownership Alliance’s members comprise some of the leading nonprofit, mission-focused homeownership practitioners from across the country. These organizations prepare families to become successful homeowners and finance, renovate, and develop affordable homes that are assets for communities and the families that live in them.
“Homeownership provides families with a sense of financial and emotional security while playing a vital role in supporting healthy, stable communities,” said Chris Neary, Cinnaire Vice President Policy, Research and Advocacy. “The mission-driven members of the Homeownership Alliance will serve as a strong voice in Washington. Together, we will work to secure new resources to support affordable homeownership, address racial inequities and advance opportunities for American families.”
Mission-driven affordable homeownership developers and lenders can work with families to get them ready for homeownership. They expand the supply of affordable homes by financing, renovating, and building homes that are assets for communities and the families that live in them. Mission-drive homeownership practitioners need a voice in Washington that advocates for new resources for homeownership, improvements in existing programs and the growth of the capacity of non-profits that operate in this sector.
The Homeownership Alliance will focus on both legislative and regulatory opportunities to increase funding for affordable homeownership by improving and expanding existing programs and creating new sources of funding. Guided by its members, the group’s advocacy will reflect the experiences of and lessons learned by some of the nation’s most innovative and resilient homeownership developers and lenders.
“As we look for strategies to confront inequality and reduce the racial wealth gap, affordable, sustainable homeownership is our nation’s most proven tool to build wealth, strengthen household finances, and stabilize communities,” said Julie Gordon, President of NCST.
