Cinnaire recently joined Hope Network, Grand Rapids Mayor Rosalynn Bliss and community partners to celebrate the groundbreaking for Eastpointe Commons, a $40 million affordable housing development on Fulton Avenue East in Grand Rapids, MI, spearheaded by Hope Network, a leading statewide nonprofit organization committed to transforming and rebuilding lives across Michigan. Eastpointe Commons aims to address the critical issue of homelessness in the Grand Rapids community by transforming the existing Fulton Manor buildings into a fully renovated housing complex.
“Eastpointe Commons aims to address the housing crisis occurring in underserved communities across the country,” said Ben Stehouwer, Cinnaire Senior Vice President, Business Development. “We are proud to join the many community partners that came together to provide 118 affordable homes for West Michigan residents. This project represents the alchemy possible when public and private partners join forces to lift up communities and revitalize neighborhoods.”
Eastpointe Commons will provide much-needed housing options for individuals and families with limited incomes. The apartment homes will include 77 one-bedroom units, 35 two-bedroom units, and 5 three-bedroom units, catering to diverse housing needs. In addition, 42 of the units will cater to permanent supportive housing (PSH) or housing for individuals and families who have been experiencing long-term homelessness. Amenities will include community space, property management and supportive services offices, meeting rooms, lounge area, children’s play area, exercise room, elevators, and exterior courtyards.
“We know that here in West Michigan and really across the country, we have a housing problem and this is a way to get people in housing and really make a huge difference for their families,” Robert Von Kaenel, CEO of Hope Network said.
Financing for Eastpointe Commons is made possible through the collaboration of several organizations including Cinnaire, UnitedHealth Group, Fifth Third Bank, CPC Financial, HUD CPF Community Grant and the City of Grand Rapids MEDC Grant.
“We believe that everyone deserves access to safe and affordable housing,” said Anthony Barker, Executive Director of Housing and Community Development at Hope Network. “Eastpointe Commons represents our dedication to addressing the housing challenges faced by underserved populations and fostering a sense of community.”
Construction and renovations began on June 30 and the first residents are expected to move in by December 2024. A grand opening will be scheduled for early spring of 2025.
