The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commission of Mid-Michigan recently announced the recipients of the 2022 Mark McDaniel Legacy Scholarship, a competitive scholarship program designed to inspire and empower high school students from all backgrounds to achieve higher education. Since it began, the program has provided over $225,000 in scholarships.
Cinnaire serves as a monumental partner for the Commission, a nonprofit dedicated to preserving the legacy and teachings of Dr. King, supporting community agencies, and empowering youth to achieve educational outcomes. Their work – which aligns with Cinnaire’s unwavering belief that all people deserve the opportunities provided by living in healthy communities – is guided by Dr. King’s teachings and philosophy of love, tolerance, and nonviolence.
The scholarship program is open to graduating seniors in the Greater Lansing area pursuing higher education. The commission awards two $5,000 and three $2,500 Mark McDaniel Legacy Scholarships annually. Contestants must submit an essay reflecting on the commissions annual theme.
This year’s theme is the Martin Luther King Jr. quote “in the long run, justice must finally spring from a new moral climate.” We are pleased to share the 2022 scholarship recipients! To read the recipients winning essay, please click here.
