Celebrity Servers Raise $43,000 to Help Homeless Families
Mark McDaniel recently joined Sister Pat Newhouse, Jim Patterson and Matt Anderson for the annual Haven House Pancake Palooza Championship. Haven House provides emergency housing and support services for families with children. The shelter helps families who are homeless prepare for permanent housing by developing and promoting self-sufficiency, stability and financial responsibility. In addition to housing, residents receive meals, crisis counseling, assistance with goal setting and referrals to other agencies as needed. For every $1,000 donated, Haven House is able to provide housing and services to one family.
The annual Pancake Palooza fundraiser brings together Lansing based celebrity servers to compete for the coveted Pancake Champion Trophy. Each server hosts an online fundraiser to collect “tips” before the all-you-can-eat breakfast event. During the event, the celebrities compete for tips and participate in fun events to challenge guests to donate to Haven House. Activities this year included the popular pie in the face, the mummy wrap challenge and a costume contest.
The 2018 event was a great success, raising over $43,000 to help homeless families. Mark individually raised $22,375, once again earning the Pancake Champion Trophy! The real winners are the 43 families that Haven House will now be able to provide with emergency housing and services. Congratulations to all of the servers that worked so hard to ensure families in the Lansing area will be kept together, safe and warm thanks to Haven House.
